Originalmente se escrib\u00eda Greg Sanders, pero su ortograf\u00eda fue cambiada a Greg Saunders en la d\u00e9cada de 1990. En una de sus historias se revelar\u00eda que su abuelo fue un guerrero nativo americano, y su padre era un sheriff en Wyoming. Cuando era joven, Saunders se traslad\u00f3 al este, a la ciudad de Nueva York y se convirti\u00f3 en cantante de country, el \u00abPrairie Troubadour\u00bb (trovador de las praderas) de la radio. Greg regres\u00f3 a su casa despu\u00e9s de que su padre fuera asesinado, llevando ante la justicia a la banda de bandidos que lo mataron.
